Karem Roitman is a powerful storyteller. Karem uses insights from philosophy, the social sciences, and literature, to explore complex challenges and possibilities for human development in an accessible and memorable way.

Karem Roitman has a DPhil and MPhil from Oxford University. She lectures on politics and international development at the Open University and has worked as an international development, and education, consultant, with clients including DFID, the UN, the government of Ecuador, and Oxford University Press. She is also the founder and director of Thinkers Meet Up, an educational enterprise that has brought together thousands of learners from all over the world to discuss global challenges.

Karem describes herself as an immigrant. She notes that it has been her experiences of living in the boundaries – between cultures, between languages, between ways of knowing – that have inspired her to reflect on different ways of learning, of leading, and of understanding human development.

When not speaking, Karem is most likely reading or writing. She recently completed a book ‘Utopia: seeking the perfect world. A discussion for the young and curious’ (forthcoming, Routledge), and is working on a memoir of lessons learned from her abuelas. Previously she was the lead author of the Global Projects Curriculum for the Oxford International Curriculum.
