James Pearce is a former award winning BBC Correspondent and one of the worldโs leading communications trainers, with more than a decade of experience working with organisations across the globe.
His clients include global business leaders, NHS England doctors and nurses, and elite sports professionals such as Harry Kane and the England football teams.
James spent 20 years as a BBC Correspondent in a wide range of roles, most notably as the BBCโs Olympics Correspondent for London 2012. He led the BBCโs news coverage from the very start of the London bid in 2001 through to the delivery of the Games in 2012.
During his career, James interviewed five Prime Ministers and countless world leaders. Just as importantly, he also worked with thousands of people who were far less experienced at communicating under pressure. Time and again, he saw capable professionals miss valuable opportunities because they did not know how to make the most of the platform in front of them.
That frustration led James to set up his communications training agency in 2013. His mission is simple: to help people communicate more clearly, confidently, and effectively in the moments that matter. Media interview preparation is only one part of his work. James believes that we are all communicators, and nearly all of us can improve. From speaking up in internal meetings, to making an impact in a brief conversation with a senior leader, to keeping clients engaged at the end of a long day, effective communication underpins every working day.
James is clear that organisations operate more efficiently when their people communicate well.
A key theme in Jamesโs work is the idea of selling your message. Whenever we communicate a positive idea, we are selling, whether to colleagues, clients, or stakeholders. James helps audiences become better salespeople for their message, while also providing a simple, memorable framework for handling difficult conversations. What do you say when something has gone wrong, or when a client is unhappy? James shares practical rules that can protect reputations, contracts, and long term relationships.
Jamesโs conference sessions are highly interactive and always tailored to the organisation or industry in the room. Audience members can even take part on stage and practice handling challenging questions, but only after they have been given the tools to succeed.
With an energetic and engaging delivery style, James leaves audiences with practical ideas they can use immediately, a clearer understanding of effective communication, and often a smile on their face.
I attend numerous conferences, and James Pearceโs talk on communications is the single standout speech from all that I have ever seen. Itโs not often that you leave a conference with your mind opened up to a whole new way of thinking. This is going to improve the way that I communicate with clients and colleagues, and I am so excited to be able to put some of these ideas into practice
James Pearce delivered a brilliant after dinner speech that gave our conference audience a fascinating insight into the world of the sports correspondent. A funny and fast paced session that revealed the pressures, near misses and occasional catastrophes that can go on behind the scenes when sport is reported on our TV screens. You’ll never look at a sports reporter in the same way again! Great entertainment, and not just for the sports fan.
