Michelle Mone OBE, is the founder of Ultimo, the UK's leading designer lingerie brand. Listed as one of the top three female entrepreneurs in the UK, Michelle has built a hugely successful career on an incredibly simple concept: giving today's women what they want. 

In the 2010 New Years Honours Michelle Mone was awarded an OBE for services to business.

Michelle Mone OBE, is the Founder of Ultimo, the UK’s leading designer lingerie brand. Listed as one of the top three female entrepreneurs in the UK and recognised by the Queen with an OBE honour for her contribution to the lingerie industry, Michelle has built a hugely successful career on an incredibly simple concept: giving today’s women what they want.

Entrepreneurial spirit was prevalent from an early age in Michelle Mone, who grew up in theeast end of Glasgow. Michelle left school at 15 with no qualifications to find full-time employment, after her father was struck down by an illness leaving him confined toa wheelchair. To support her family Michelle Mone  took on a job at Labatt Brewers’ and quickly climbed the ranks from office junior to senior manager, running the Sales &Marketing team by the time she was just 20 yrs old.

But it was in 1996 when her idea for Ultimo was born. Whilst attending a dinner dancewith her husband Michael, Michelle Mone was wearing a very uncomfortable cleavage enhancing bra and as a result had a ‘light bulb’ moment; Michelle decided to invent a bra that was more comfortable and cleavage enhancing than any other bra on the market. 

Since launching the business Michelle Mone has established herself as one of Scotland’s biggest exports; in 2000 Michelle won the ‘World Young Business Achiever Award’ at the Epcot Centre, Florida, and then ‘Business Woman of the Year’ at the Corporate Elite Awards in London.

In 2001 Prince Charles invited Michelle Mone to join the Board of Directors for The Princes Scottish Youth Business Trust and more recently his Board of Main Council, confirming her status as one of the UK’s leading female entrepreneurs. Michelle Mone also won ‘Best Newcomer’ at the British Apparel Export Awards, presented by HRH the Princess Royal, adding to her long list of awards, accolades and recognition's.

In October 2005 Michelle Mone attended a speaking engagement with former US president Bill Clinton and Mikhail Gorbachev,and went on to support the Sultan of Oman in setting up women’s enterprise in the Middle East. Michelle Mone has since become a high-profile guest at speaking engagements and corporate events all over the world.

Over the years Michelle’s business has gone from strength-to-strength, developing beyond the original umbrella of Ultimo to encompass 15 patented inventions and brands including Ultimo Bridal, Ultimo Swimwear, Ultimo Black Label and joint ventures including Adore Moi for Debenhams

In addition to its jointly owned brands, Ultimo currently supply  Debenhams, Next , Asos.com House of Fraser, Harrods Bentalls, along with a number of independent lingerie stores throughout Europe. 

In 2012, after three years of intensive research and over £1million spent on development ,Michelle Mone expanded her portfolio and launched into the world of beauty - with a range of tanning and body sculpting products, UTan and USculpt. The Ultimo Beauty range is available in Selfridges, Boots, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, John Lewis, House of Fraser and  Debenhams stores nationwide.

Over the years Ultimo has established a large and loyal customer base, and contracts with a string of high-profile models and celebrities, including Penny Lancaster, Rachel Hunter,Helena Christensen, Sarah Harding, Mel B, Kelly Brook and Luisana Lopilato. As PR savvy as they come, Michelle Mone has achieved over £1 billion worth of press coverage for  Ultimo in the brand’s 15 year history.

Over recent years Michelle Mone's success has soared, as has her public profile; not only was Ultimo the first UK lingerie brand to debut at New York Fashion Week in 2009, but Michelle Mone is also a regular fixture on national television and, most recently, fronted a campaign for British Airways. An expert in diet, health, fashion and business, Michelle is also followed by 650,000+ people on Twitter

Michelle Mone's TV appearances have included: BBC’s ‘Comic Relief Does The Apprentice’, TheApprentice: You’ve Been Fired, Celebrity Masterchef, ITV’s ‘71 Degrees North’ and Surprise Surprise. Most recently Michelle appeared as a panel guest on ITV’s political panelshow The Agenda alongside UK Prime Minister David Cameron.

Personally, Michelle Mone has weathered a challenging few years. She has bounced back from anacrimonious divorce and fought to retain her business, buying her ex-husband out of the company and going it alone. Michelle has since forged a partnership with global lingerie  giants MAS Holdings, one of the world's biggest manufacturers of intimates.

Michelle Mone's life will be documented in a book, due out in February 2015.

Michelle Mone  - thank you for your wonderful speech on Saturday at the REI conference in Kilkenny.  I found your speech truly inspiring and am really motivated after it.  I think it is wonderful you are giving all the funds to Breast Cancer research  this is very close to my heart.
Wow fantastic presentation and I loved the Bill Clinton story. Very inspiring and will borrow your Selfridges idea.
I attended the Retail Excellence conference on Saturday last in Kilkenny where you were speaking.  This is just a note to say how much I enjoyed your story and how impressed I was with your drive and determination to get your company to the level you are now at. It's sometimes hard to motivate yourself in these trying times but I found myself coming away on Saturday with a renewed energy.â€

I enjoyed your speech at the North West Business Link yesterday it was very interesting, and what I like about it was your honesty, from being very young to the person you are today. I was inspired by your comment that it does not matter how old you are if you have an invention then follow your dreams, and you comments about "if you think small you will always be that way, think big and you will be big....brilliant.

It was a very powerful talk and it is good to see that you remain very much in the real world and I wish you every success in the future. You were the only person speaking who was actually interested in what the people asking the questions did and what their businesses did. I thought that really showed what type of person you are and I have been going to this exhibition for the last 3 years or so and I have never seen that done before.

She was very entertaining and what she has achieved in her life is amazing, but I did not find her motivational. I don't know that I would want to emulate her in my business as she came across as quite ruthless as a business women.
To hear her story of rags to riches and the journey to get to the 'riches' was simply amazing.
It overturned my prejudicial view so that I now understand successful people all have to work very hard to become so.
She is a real role model so to have her there at our Conference was definitely a fantastic move!
