Leon's passion for everything he does has helped him achieve sustained success at the highest level. Considered a feat in itself for such a physically punishing sport, his career lasted more than 20 years and his successes brought diving to the attention of the British public.

Training in the pre-lottery funding era in a minority sport brought its challenges but in the Athens Olympics of 2004, Leon Taylor and his diving partner Peter Waterfield, managed to secure Britain's first medal in the sport for 44 years. An honour which led to additional investment in the sport and the development of a new crop of British talent.

He is acknowledged within the sport for pushing the boundaries of what's possible. In 1998 he invented 'the worlds most difficult dive' - a backward 2.5 somersaults with 2.5 twists in the piked position. The dive carried a tariff of 3.8 and was the most difficult dive performed in competition. Following a rule change in 2009, the dive tariff was changed to 3.6 but the dive is a legacy that continues to live long after Leon's competitive days.

Retiring from diving in May 2008, Leon is now an integral part of the BBC Sports Olympic coverage and has also been mentor to diving sensation Tom Daley.

This latter role led him to write his first book. "MENTOR - The most important role you were never trained for" aimed at organisations wishing to engage and nurture talent through mentoring.

In addition he is a much sought after speaker and conference host, Leon is a Brand Ambassador for BMW, BT and Lloyds TSB. He has picked up numerous Hot Yoga teaching qualifications and has even taught the brilliant Justin Lee Collins to dive!

Leon Taylor is head judge on the Saturday night ITV show Splash!. Hosted by Vernon Kay and Gabby Logan, the contest sees Olympic hero Tom Daley teaching his sport to celebs, before they demonstrate their skills in a series of live shows.

Background

Leon Taylor was a hyperactive child and his parents were advised by doctors to channel his energy and enthusiasm into sport. As a result, he was introduced to swimming and gymnastics from the age of two and started diving as "just another sport" when he was eight. Three years later, Leon was under 12 national champion.

Throughout a 16-year career representing GB Leon Taylor won medals at all major diving championships. He recovered from two separate shoulder surgeries to win a silver medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and later fulfilled a life-time ambition with his 2004 Olympic Silver medal in Athens.

Leon Taylor  Inspirational and Motivational Speaker

Leon's been addressing audiences for a few years and has had some very positive feedback. Here is a selection of recent comments.

"At our Breakthrough Innovation conference Leon gave an inspiring insight into his journey as an Olympic diver and the invention of the world's most difficult dive.  Extraordinary thinking leads to extraordinary actions and extraordinary outcomes. Leon has a fantastic personality which is both engaging and motivational.  Everyone was left with a real sense of belief that anything is possible."

Guy Escolme  General Manager Innovation, Diageo Europe

"Leon Taylor's  talk was humorous, relevant, inspiring, and celebratory..... but I think what worked even better was the amount of time he spent with us after in the tower - taking time to talk with everyone, allowing them to see/touch/wear the medal. It made the evening really special. Leon is a lovely person, really genuine, with a great personality which came over in spades."
Judith Harding
TSR Migrations and Business Intelligence Director, BT

"An uplifting and motivational address which inspired the audience to challenge their own perceptions of what's achievable through a combination of clear goal setting, hard work and determination" "Leon Taylor's presentation was one of the high points of a very successful conference"

Adrian Bryant - Royal Bank of Scotland Cards

"I am writing to you to express my thanks for your motivational speech that you gave recently in Dublin . The members of Million Dollar Round Table and the LIA in Ireland are a well motivated bunch of people anyway, so for you to get the attendees excited and motivated is a reflection of the quality of your speech and the presentation of it. It was done with a natural flair that involved what was obviously a lot of preparation and professionalism. To any one reading this who wants to know if Leon Taylor is suitable as a speaker I want to recommend him highly as he undertakes the task of speaking to an audience as if he is 10 meters above them about to take the most important dive of his career and he did it with ease. He is a professional, a courteous and most of all a nice person to deal with. He would receive a perfect 10 from this judge."

PADRAIC KISSANE - MDRT Chair Ireland

"A charming and entertaining speaker. Leon had a great ability to communicate with all the captive members of the audience. A real asset to the evening. Thank you."
Wendy Ellis - Head at Windermere St. Anne's

Leon demonstrates a unique ability to draw them into his extraordinary world as a professional athlete, including the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. He is truly an inspirational young man, with natural flair to articulate the true challenges of the World stage, motivating people to believe that with commitment and desire, they can succeed in all walks of life.
