Born in Leicester in 1966 Jayant took up playing wheelchair tennis at the age of 19. Within a few years his natural ability soon found him competing on the international circuit and climbing up the world rankings in both singles and doubles events. Indeed Jayant has retained his position as one of the world 's leading tennis players for the last ten years.

Jayant has represented his country in the last three Paralympic Games since wheelchair tennis became a full medal winning sport in Barcelona 1992 and was looking for Gold in Athens 2004. Since becoming an International wheelchair tennis player Jayant finally earned his rightful place amongst the Worlds' elite eight players when in January 2002 he played in the first ever 'Classic Eight' tournament in the Australian Open, the first ever wheelchair tournament to take place alongside a mainstream Grand Slam event.
