His first taste of real success was winning the Junior Rowing Championship of Ireland as an 18 year old. He was then selected to row for Ireland in 1980. Having joined the British Army, he gained a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst before winning the opportunity to serve with the elite 2nd Gurkha Rifles. Bryan served with Gurkhas all over the world for six years and this included operational experience. He left the Gurkhas in 1990 and spent a year in Nepal leading climbing, trekking and white water rafting expeditions. He then took a team of Gurkhas to Africa to work on a diamond mine in Angola. When the mine was overrun by UNITA terrorists, Bryan and his team were taken into captivity. They were released after three days and flown to safety in Namibia by the Brazilian Air Force. Following on from his experiences in Africa, Bryan embarked on a career in sales, initially as a sales man and then as a sales coach. During this time he re-developed his fascination with what it is that makes some people successful, at work, at home, in sports. He established Tailor Made Training Ireland in 2001. His clients now include The Royal Bank of Scotland, Standard Life Assurance Company and the Bank of Ireland. Bryan's presentations are based on his own life experiences and the lessons he has learnt and put into practice. They are both inspirational and highly entertaining. I recommended to the committee of the Institute of Bankers in Ireland, that we ask Bryan to address the Regional Membership on the topic of personal motivation. Right from the outset the presentation was engaging and informative, he fully involved the audience - there was even a queue for the 'board break' at the end! The feedback was excellent. One of the attendees from another Bank commented "if that's what he can show us within 20 minutes, imagine what you would gain in an hour or two".
