Brett has always been immersed in the world of wine, first in hotels, restaurants and wine bars, and now speaking about it. He relishes sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm, relating tales from his travels through the vineyards. Having received treatment to beat prostate cancer Brett’s glass is always more than half full!

Wine Maestro Brett Jones has spent over forty years working with and – naturally – enjoying wine. His initial interest was kindled during training at the Swiss Hotel School in Lausanne in the 1960s. He soon learned that, as good as Swiss wines are, there was a whole wide world of wine to be discovered.

After further experience in a number of top European hotels, with the opportunity to taste and learn more about wine, Brett opened his wine bar and bistro in Billericay, Essex. This was in 1976 and the British love of wine was in its infancy.

Customers and friends needed help and guidance in discovering more about wine and learning about the different countries and regions that produced it: Brett was more than happy to share his knowledge and was constantly extending his own research through visits to wine producing regions and meeting wine producers on visits to the UK.

In 2001 Brett joined the Association of Wine Educators, a UK group of independent, professional wine educators , as well as becoming a recommended tutor for the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. He is also a member of the Circle of Wine Writers.

In 2002, after 26 years, he sold his wine bar to concentrate on speaking, presenting entertaining wine tastings and running his wine club. He continues to travel widely through the world’s wine regions and has a wealth of stories to relate on the world of wine.

Brett was successfully treated for prostate cancer in 2006 and is very keen to raise awareness of this illness and the measures that can be taken to discover indications sooner rather than later. In 2009 he was one of the 2,400 people to appear as part of Anthony Gormley’s One & Other on the Fourth Plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square and used his hour to highlight the disease in different countries of the world, while tasting wines from those countries.

Brett’s enthusiasm for wine and life is boundless and he is keen to share this enjoyment with his entertaining presentations.
